Riders to the sea

1. '' They're all gone now, and there isn't anything more the sea can do to me... " --- Who is the speaker? Who are referred to as 'they'? What does the quoted line mean? (" ওরা সবাই চলে গেল, সমুদ্র আর আমার কিছু করতে পারবে না " --- বক্তা কে? তারা বলতে এখানে কাদের কথা বলা হয়েছে? উদ্ধৃতিটিতে কী বোঝানো হয়েছে?)               

 Or, 

' They're all gone now, and there isn't anything more the sea can do to me... " --- Explain how this line represents the relentless power of nature in the play. Comment on the emotional impact this line has on Maurya's character. "  I'll have no call now to be going down and getting Holy  Water in the dark nights after Samhain. " --- Who is the speaker? What is holy water? What is Samhain? Why does the speaker say this word? (" আমাকে আর সামাইনের পরে অন্ধকার রাতে পবিত্র জল সংগ্রহ করতে বেরিয়ে পরতে হবে না " --- বক্তা কে ? পবিত্র জল কী ? সামাইন কী ? বক্তা কেন একথা বলেছেন?)                                                                                      Or,

Ans:- 

Maurya is the speaker here in the play 'Riders to the Sea ' written by J.M Synge.

Holy water is a kind of purified (বিশুদ্ধ ) water, which is collected for safty (সুরহ্মা) of the  alive persons.

Samhain is a Celtic festival celebrated (উদযাপন ) on 1st November marking the end of the harvesting season (চাষবাসের সময় ) and the beginning of winter.

J.M Synge's ''Riders to the Sea '' is a popular one act tragedy. Here Synge beautifully presented (উপস্থাপন করা ) the conflict (দ্বন্দ্ব) between the sea and man.  All the people of the Aran islands are completely dependent (নির্ভর করা ) on the sea for their livelihood (জীবনধারন করা ). All the male members of Maurya's family went to sea but none of them returned. Maurya's husband, father-in-law, and six sons are all dead. After the death of her  last son, Bartley, Maurya Said that she has lost everything. She has nothing left to lose or protect (রহ্মা করা ) from the sea. 

Maurya tried to protect (রহ্মা করা ) the male members of his family from the sea, but she failed. Finally she accepted (মেনে নেওয়া ) her fate (ভাগ্য ). Since all the male members of her family died in the sea, she no longer has to collect holy water in the dark nights after Samhain . She realized (উপলব্ধি করা ) that no one can live forever (চিরকাল) . So it is not possible to avoid (এড়িয়ে চলা ) death. This statement showed her courage (সাহস ) and determination (সংকল্প) . In this way, J. M Synge gave a description (বর্ণনা) of the struggle (লড়াই) of destiny (অদৃষ্ট)  and human life in the play. 

2. " Its Michael, Cathleen, it's Michael; " --- How did Nora and Cathleen came to the conclusion that the clothes were of Michael's? ( এটা মাইকেলের, ক্যাথলিন, এটা মাইকেলের ; " --- ক্যাথলিন ও নোরা কীভাবে এই সিদ্ধান্তে এসেছিলো যে পোশাক গুলো মাইকেলের ছিল? ) 

Or, 

" The young priest is after bringing them. " --- Who said this to whom? Who was young priest? Why did the priest give it to the speaker? ( " তরুণ যাজক এগুলো নিয়ে  আসতে বলল " -- কে কাকে একথা বলেছিল? তরুণ যাজক কে? কেন তরুণ যাজক তাকে এগুলো দিয়েছিল? )

Or, 

" May be she would wake up on us " --- Who said this about whom? Why did the worry that she would wake up? ( " আমাদের কাজের মাঝখানে সে হয়তো জেগে উঠবে " --- কে কার সম্পর্কে একথা বলেছেন? তার জেগে ওঠার ব্যাপারে বক্তা চিন্তিত ছিল কেন?)

Ans:- In J.M Synge's one act play ' Riders to the Sea ' Nora said this to her elder sister Cathleen.

A representative (প্রতিনিধি) of the Catholic religion who conducts (পরিচালনা করা ) religious activities (ধর্মীয় কার্যকলাপ)  is called priest (যাজক) .The priest mentioned (উল্লেখ করা) in the play was a young man.

In J. M Synge's one act play Riders to the Sea Cathleen said this about her mother Maurya.

In the play the young priest gave a bundle of clothes to Nora. In this bundle there were a shirt and plain stocking (মোজা ) of a drowned man (ডুবন্ত ব্যাক্তি ) of Donegal. 

The young priest has came to know that Maurya's son Michael was missing from nine days. They were very much worried (চিন্তিত) about Michael. So the young priest gave this bundle to Nora if they could identity (চিহ্নিত করা ) whether (যদি)  it belonged (মানানসই ) to Michael. Maurya has already suffered (ভুগতে থাকা) a lot of grief (যন্ত্রনা ) and pain (কষ্ট)  from losing her son. So Cathleen  suspectes (সন্দেহ প্রকাশ)  that her mother will suffer even more if she wakes up before they can open the bundle.

Finally they untied (খুলে ফেলা ) the bundle. Nora counted (গুনেছিল) the stitches (সেলাই ) on the stocking and realized (উপলব্ধি করা ) that they were Michael's. Because Nora had knitted (বুনেছিল) the stock herself and had knitted three score stitches (তিন কুড়ি ঘর) and then dropped (ছেড়ে ছিল) four.
