Or, What role does nature play in Hawk Roosting ?

Ans:-  In the poem Hawk Roosting here 'I' refer to the Hawk.

Ted Hughes ' Hawk Roosting'  is a popular  dramatic monologue.  The poem is written from the perspective of a hawk. Physically the hawk is a powerful bird, its job is to find out and kill its prey. The hawk sits on a high branch in the forest with its eyes closed. Although it appears to be sleeping, the hawk is actually rehearsing for its next prey. Its clawed feet help it to stay on the branch.

The hawk enjoys many advantages for sitting on the high branches of the tree. The air's buoyancy  and the sunlight help it to find its prey on the ground. It seems as if the whole world is looking at the hawk. Nature is helping it in its hunting. The hawk's curved legs,  its feathers, are created from a combination of nature's materials. And now those sharp claws and feathers play major role in its hunting. Now it holds the entire creation in its feet.

Or,  '' I kill where I please bacause it is all mine '' --- Who is I referred to here ? What does this line signify ?

Ans:-  In the poem Hawk Roosting here 'I' refer to the Hawk.

Ted Hughes ' Hawk Roosting'  is a popular  dramatic monologue.  The poem is written from the perspective of a hawk. Physically the hawk is a powerful bird, its job is to find out and kill its prey.  As it circles high in the sky, the hawk watches its prey. Hawk's  only job is to tearing of heads of its prey. The hawk can hunt wherever it wants because it rules over all creation.

According to the hawk, nature has assigned him the right to kill his share and allotment of death.  There is no sophistry in its body. The hawk's sole purpose in existence is to kill and eat other animals. Therefore, no argument can be made against its right. The sun rises at the morning and sets at the end of the day, but the rights of the hawk of allotment of death never changes. The sppremacy  and cruelty of the Hawk is beautifully presented in the poem.
